The representative of Polekol, Iskra Krstić, participated in this year’s Balkan Forum 2024, which took place from October 25 to 27 in Zagreb, as part of the Subversiv festival. Krstić spoke on a panel dedicated to environmental justice, emphasizing how citizens in Serbia are organizing against destructive extractivist projects and why this struggle is a matter of survival.
The panel discussion brought together experts and activists from the region, including Tihomir Dakić from Banja Luka (Center for the Environment), Branko Ančić from Zagreb (Možemo) and Vlad Odar from Ljubljana. The discussion was moderated by Marija Mileta, and the participants exchanged experiences and strategies for dealing with environmental and social challenges.
The Balkan Forum, part of the program “Emancipatory politics in the age of regression: the left in the region”, was organized in the SKD Education Gallery and the Cultural and Information Center. This event, as an extension of the Subversive festival held in May under the slogan “Living without capitalism”, provided a space for dialogue about alternatives to capitalist development models and the importance of regional cooperation in the protection of nature and communities.
