OJT in Zaječar launched an investigation into the illegal mining of sand and gravel on Crni Timok following Polekol’s report

On the upper reaches of the Crni Timok, in the village of Mali Izvor in the municipality of Boljevac, in the immediate vicinity of the "Ponorske ćuprije" bridge, large amounts of sand and gravel were illegally mined during the winter, which led to the destruction of a part of the river bed and shore, damaged the habitat of protected species, and altered the course of the river, which caused catastrophic ecological consequences.

Demand for responsibility – who protects nature?

On the occasion of the issuance of the Decision on conditions for nature protection - Project "Jadar", 32 civil society organizations dealing with nature protection call on the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Environmental Protection to take responsibility and take measures to sanction those responsible in the Institute for Nature Protection of Serbia for the non-transparent and illegitimate process of issuing nature protection conditions for the "Jadar" project.
